Prep Program

The Prep Program is a workshop for youth ages 11*–17 this year who have previously auditioned but were not seated, or who might be interested in auditioning for ZYSC in the future.

NO AUDITIONS NECESSARY!

*Must have already completed 6th grade or equivalent.

The Prep Program will be held

June 15–19, 2026

9:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.

at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 3400 West Charleston Blvd, Las Vegas, Nevada 89102.

You’ll work with outstanding coaches, including
David Skouson • Holly Steed • Sydnee Hinrichsen and other inspiring mentors who can’t wait to help you grow!

Registration opens April 1 and closes June 1 each year.

What You’ll Learn

This program is focused on building vital musical skills:

  • Sight-reading

  • Ear training and audiation

  • Rhythm

  • Audition techniques

  • Practice strategies

  • Performance readiness

You will also be introduced to the culture, values, and spirit that define the Zion’s Youth Symphony & Chorus experience.

Note: Participation in the Prep Program does not guarantee admittance into Zion’s Youth Symphony & Chorus.

Expectations & Policies

CHORUS EXPECTATIONS

  • All levels welcome

  • Be at least 11 years old AND have completed 6th grade

  • Bring a positive attitude and a love for singing

  • Note-reading and vocal experience are encouraged but not mandatory

  • Be willing to work hard and learn!

SYMPHONY EXPECTATIONS

  • All instruments welcome (piano, percussion, harp, strings, woodwinds, and brass)

  • Be at least 11 years old AND have completed 6th grade

  • Bring a positive attitude and a love for music

  • Must have your own instrument (except piano and percussion)

  • Strings: Must must be familiar with vibrato and shifting

  • Winds / Brass: At least one year of experience

  • All instrumentalists must be able to read music and feel comfortable with their instrument

PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS

  • Arrive five minutes before the program start time

  • Bring music and a pencil every day

  • Be respectful of others and the church building

  • Stay on site during the entire day unless prearranged with the Prep Program Secretary

  • Clean up after lunch and end of day

DRESS STANDARDS

  • Dress in clean, modest attire

  • T-shirts with sleeves (no tank tops or bare midriffs)

  • Long shorts or pants (no short shorts)

  • Tennis shoes or flip flops are fine

TUITION

  • Tuition is $200 and is due upon registration
